Symptoms of STDs in Women
In women, symptoms of common STDs may include pain or burning during urination, abnormal vaginal discharge, bloody vaginal discharge, pain in the abdomen, spotting, itching, blisters, fever, swollen glands, open sores, and warts. Some STDs, like chlamydia and gonorrhea, cause no symptoms. If your sexual partner has been diagnosed with an STD, testing yourself is vital to prevent complications such as infertility and certain types of cancer.
Symptoms of STDs in Men
Men with STDs may experience discharge from the urethra, pain during urination, inflammation of the testicles or prostate, fever, or sores. Untreated STDs put you at risk for organ failure, infertility, and even brain damage. If you have an STD, your sexual partners are at risk of transmission, so the only way to protect them is to refrain from sexual activity until diagnosis and treatment are completed.

Erin Hill, DO
Gynecologist
Dr. Erin Hill, a New Yorker by birth, has been in rural Oklahoma since early childhood. Her undergraduate education was completed at University of Tulsa and she went on to Oklahoma State University College of Osteopathic Medicine to obtain her medical degree. Her residency in OB/Gyn Surgery was completed at Tulsa Regional Medical Center. Dr. Hill has been practicing in the Tulsa area since 2007.
In 2012, after the delivery of her own sixth child, Dr. Hill decided to work part-time and eliminated obstetrics from her practice. This change allowed her to balance her career with her family. As a result, she was able to enjoy the gynecologic aspect of the specialty that easily gets overshadowed with obstetric demands. She discovered that she enjoys helping women understand their bodies and navigating the transitions of womanhood through the lifespan.
Dr. Hill lives in the Tulsa area with her husband. They have 5 children at home and one that has been successfully launched with two children of his own. Dr. Hill and her family attend Sojourn church in Tulsa. She enjoys any activity involving her kids and grandkids, as well as reading and traveling–always driving, never flying.
For More Information
Abnormal bleeding is a common problem in the gynecology office and can be a problem for women of all ages.
Abnormal bleeding includes any irregular bleeding in the menstrual cycle and can include periods that are too heavy, too frequent, or too infrequent. The time in and around menopause is also quite disruptive to a woman’s bleeding patterns.
There are also many structural causes of abnormal bleeding like uterine polyps or fibroid tumors. Less commonly, infection or cancer is found to be the cause.
While the causes are numerous, so are the options to manage these problems. With proper testing and patient education about your body, your health care professional will be able to inform you of your options and help you decide the best plan of care.

Endometriosis is a disease where endometrial tissue (lining of uterus) gets into the abdominal cavity, implants, and then grows and bleeds with the same hormonal signals that cause menstrual bleeding. Most commonly and early in its disease course, it causes severe menstrual cramps and pain with intercourse. Over time, it can lead to various amounts of scar tissue in the abdomen and pelvis.
Endometriosis can be a cause of chronic pelvic pain, pain with sexual activity, and infertility.
It’s important to seek treatment if you are having any signs or symptoms of endometriosis. Even now, it is not fully understood how the implants end up outside the uterus but intervening early may be helpful in some patients to avoid more severe disease and complications. Medications can be used to keep the tissue less active and hopefully minimize its impact.
At one time, a patient could not be diagnosed unless surgery was done to directly visualize the presence of these implants in the pelvis. Now, we can diagnose endometriosis clinically based on the patient’s history and treat it medically first. Unfortunately, many with severe disease end up having surgery at least once and eventually having both uterus and ovaries removed.
If you are experiencing signs or symptoms of endometriosis, schedule an appointment today with our Women’s Health provider today to discuss your symptoms and explore treatment options.
Genital prolapse is the bulging of pelvic organs into the vagina. There are muscles and fibrous connective tissue that support the position of the pelvic organs (uterus, vagina, bladder, and rectum). The strength of this supportive tissue can be weakened by various forces/pressure caused by things like chronic constipation, frequent or prolonged or repetitive squatting, heavy lifting, pregnancy and childbirth.
Genetics influence the strength of this connective tissue so some women will have failure from less of these factors than others. Over time, these organs start to bulge into the vagina. At first, these bulges can really only be noted when your doctor examines you, but over time you may notice the bulges pushing through your vaginal opening. This can be quite distressing, but is not dangerous or an emergency. You may also notice a weak urine stream and difficulty pooping because the pathway out of the body is distorted by the bulging.
Many women experience symptoms of genital prolapse for many years without any treatment, figuring out ways to manage the difficulties with emptying bladder and bowels. However, there are surgical and non-surgical options to help alleviate and even fix this problem. Your healthcare provider will need to know if you are feeling symptoms that indicate this is a problem for you. Be encouraged to discuss these things openly with your doctor/provider.
