Halloween Doesn’t Have to be Scary for Parents of Diabetic Children

Halloween is an exciting time of the year for children. Costumes, candy, and cooler weather all come together to create a happy environment. However, Halloween is a difficult holiday to navigate for parents of children with type 1 diabetes. As a parent of a type 1 diabetic child I don’t restrict my child from candy, but we do moderate his sweets intake. How this is done is ensuring we know exactly how many carbohydrates he consumes. The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation has created a list of candy carbohydrate counts as a tool for parents like me. This is a really helpful tool for parents to track their child’s total carbohydrate intake from popular candy.  I wanted to share this information with you all in hopes that you find it as useful as I have.

Have a safe and happy Halloween from Integrity Urgent Care!
